Understanding EPAL Euro Pallets
EPAL is the European Pallet Association. Its licensed production and repair system supports a reusable, exchangeable pallet pool. Learn how pallet specifications, markings and condition affect selection for international logistics.
Specifications & Construction
EPAL 1 has a 1,200 × 800 × 144 mm footprint and height, an approximate weight of 25 kg and a 1,500 kg safe working load. Its construction uses 11 boards, 9 blocks and 78 nails.
These are EPAL reference specifications. Select pallets for the actual load, support conditions and handling equipment. See EPAL’s official product sheet for full requirements.
Markings & Quality
Look for EPAL branding, the control staple and licence/date markings. The separate IPPC mark identifies the country, plant-protection registration and treatment method.
An HT stamp alone does not establish EPAL licensing. Production and repairs must follow EPAL requirements, with repairs carried out by licensed operations.
Exchange & Reuse
Inspect pallets before reuse. Missing or broken boards, damaged blocks and contamination can make a pallet unfit for exchange.
Check the current EPAL quality and exchange criteria and agree receiving requirements with your logistics partner. Damaged pallets require assessment and, where applicable, repair by an EPAL-licensed operation.
